Dr. Lella
Dr. Rachel Lella shifted her career path to education in 2004 and has served in the capacities of pre-k through fourth grade teacher, K-12 ESL supervisor, elementary curriculum and instruction supervisor, and director of curriculum and instruction.
She holds masters degrees in elementary education, educational leadership, and language education, and a doctorate in teacher leadership with a literacy focus. She is currently a lecturer at Rutgers University and New Jersey City University as well as a clinical supervisor and literacy consultant. Dr. Lella belongs to a number of professional education organizations and has presented at their local, state, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Lella is currently serving her second term as the president of the New Jersey Literacy Association (NJLA) and sits on the International Literacy Association's Administrator Task Force and the Board of Directors for the Rutgers University Center for Literacy Development.
She is co-author of Literacy Changemakers: Bringing the Joy of Reading and Writing into Focus for Teachers and Students. She lives at the Jersey Shore, where she enjoys being a youth sports coach and mom to two daughters: nine going on fourteen and eleven going on sixteen.
